Greenwood cottage is located right at the start of the Nagaon bandar road opposite the 'Shivaji putala' - the main landmark of Nagaon. The pristine Nagaon beach is hardly 5 minutes from Greenwood cottage.
Nagaon is about 7 kms away from the well known Alibaug beach. The Kulaba fort just off the coast of Alibaug is one of the major sightseeing attractions near Greenwood cottage.
Korlai Fort & Lighthouse
Korlai Fort is located about 15 kms from Nagaon and is almost midway between Kashid and Nagaon. Built by the Portugese the Korlai fort and lighthouse offer panoramic views of the sea. Within the Korlai fort there are three inscriptions . Over one of the inscriptions surmounted by a cross is a coat of arms with a shield, the Portuguese star in the center with seven castles, but people visit this fort more for the magnificent views of the sea than its historic importance.
Kulaba fort located about a kilometer from the shores of Alibaug is one of the major sightseeing options in Alibaug. At just 8 Kms from Nagaon a visit to the fort is not to be missed especially if you are on a long weekend holiday to Nagaon. The fort can be accessed during low tide through a narrow strip of land which goes underwater during high tide. During low tide you can even walk to the Kulaba fort. Kulaba fort is open all through the year and ASI charges a nominal token entry fee for the visit to the fort.
12 Kms from Nagaon on the Alibaug-Roha route near Salav village is the beautiful Birla Mandir. Built atop a hillock Birla mandir has Ganesha as the main diety. The idol of Ganesha is placed on a marble nave which is intricately carved. The idols of Riddhi and Siddhi are placed on either sides of the Ganesha idol. There are small temples of Radha-Krishna, Shiv-Parvati and Surya deva also in the Birla mandir. Aarti at the Birla mandir is performed at at 9.00 am & 7.00 pm everyday.
